This study examined the effects of a locally developed program of individualized instruction on the attitudes of middle school pupils toward teachers, learning processes, language arts, and arithmetic/mathematics. Instruments designed to assess these four attitudes were administered to a treatment group and a comparison group of fifth, sixth, and seventh grade pupils at the beginning and end of the school year in which the pupils in the treatment group were exposed to a program of individualized instruction in language arts and mathematics. Analyses revealed that exposure to the individualized instruction had a favorable impact on pupil attitudes at each of the three grade levels studied.
