This study reports results of a survey of training directors of the Fortune 500 industrial and the Fortune 500 service corporations. Fifty‐nine percent of the 248 responding corporations provide listening training (especially those in the service sector). The listening training reported in this survey is delivered through a variety of types and formats to a wide range of personnel. This listening training typically is offered to a group of 15—25 participants during a 4.5 hour session focusing on active listening, paraphrasing, and nonverbal communication. While listening training is not a major part of the training budget, respondents report that listening training is perceived to be important in their corporations.
