Forest products such as scenic beauty can be assessed with psychophysical measurement procedures. Two such procedures are compared for convergence: the Scenic Beauty Estimation procedure (Daniel and Boster 1976) and the Law of Comparative Judgment procedure (Buhyoff and Leuschner 1978). The methods appear similar with respect to their theoretical foundations and their independently derived scenic beauty metrics. It is hoped that the comparison of these procedures will facilitate needed discussion on their appropriateness and usefulness in multiple use forest management and planning efforts.
