A Bowen approach to family therapy is applied to the problem of a negative life review in later life. An elderly woman seeks therapy in hopes of understanding her present situation and coming to terms with unresolved conflicts of the past. Through the therapy process, the elderly woman learns to see her family and herself from a systems perspective. She increases her self-differentiation and improves relations with her siblings and children. A conceptualization of the problem and Bowen's techniques and interventions are discussed as they apply to life review therapy for the elderly.
