May enable accessible real-time ECG monitoring; leaves open prospective clinical validation before adoption.
This article presents a cost-effective and accessible DIY Electrocardiogram (ECG) system using the Analog Discovery Studio and LabVIEW. The ECG signal, representing the heart’s electrical activity, is amplified through external circuitry and processed in LabVIEW via WaveForms Virtual Instruments (VIs). These VIs enable filtering, peak detection, and heart rate calculation. The system offers a customizable solution for ECG acquisition, processing, and analysis, promoting hands on learning and experimentation in biomedical instrumentation and signal processing. This study presents a wireless healthcare platform based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for real-time, multichannel ECG monitoring in mobile patients. The system enables continuous ECG data streaming, allowing physicians to detect cardiac anomalies during patients’ daily activities, thus improving mobility, early diagnosis, and remote care. The proposed work highlights the potential of utilizing accessible hardware and software tools for practical healthcare technology applications. It is clinically important to monitor mobile patients’ ECGs in real time. Without the patient being attached to an ECG device, doctors may use the ECG to identify abnormal events for risk assessment as the patient goes about their everyday activities.
