The construction of a graded difficulty test of concrete and abstract word comprehension is described. The standardisation sample consisted of 184 subjects representing a cross-section of the population. Percentile scores and scaled scores are presented for each section of the test. The test was validated in an experimental group of 66 patients with unilateral cerebral lesions. The greatest impairments were observed in a subgroup of patients with left temporal lobe lesions.
