In this paper, the potential of a completely decentralized multi-agent based control architecture is explored for the identification of viable islands in a customer-driven micro-grid prior to a fault or disturbance. The agents follow a set of rules and determine the prospective islands, in case a fault results in the opening of substation breaker, by communicating only with their immediate neighbors. An IEEE 34-bus test system was analyzed by running simulations on Matlab/Simulink. A graphical user interface (GUI) was developed in JAVA for the visualization of islands formed in the network.
