A magnetic field analysis of an original doubly excited brushless reluctance machine (DEBRM) is presented. The stator of the DEBRM consists of two sets of windings with different pole numbers. The rotor is an axially laminated structure with a pole number different from either of the stator windings. The finite element method is used to solve the magnetic vector potentials under no-load and loaded conditions. The pulsating air gap flux distribution is plotted, and the mutual coupling of the dual stator windings is derived based on the field solutions. The electromagnetic torque capability of the DEBRM is evaluated and compared with that of the equivalent induction machine.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
