Online crime from a criminological perspective. Recent developments in research on offenders and victims of online crime In 2017 the first TvC kroniek on cybercrime mainly discussed what was not yet known in this relatively new field. Since then, cybercriminals developed their methods and a lot has also happened in the field of cybercrime research both in the Netherlands and internationally. In this kroniek, we discuss recent and innovative research on both offenders and victims of online crime. With respect to offenders, we mainly focus on longitudinal research and research on offender prevention. With respect to victimisation, we discuss research on prevalence, impact and explanations. Moreover, we consider the overlap between offending and victimisation of online crime. We also provide an overview of research topics that should be prioritzed in the coming years according to members of the ESC (European Society of Criminology) Cybercrime Working Group. We end with a discussion that includes our perspective on future research in this field.
