AbstractAbstractArchaeobotanical studies frequently focus on single site economies; as a result, relatively few such studies in the Near East use plant remains to develop regional perspectives. By comparing fanning practices and evidence for plant resources in the vicinities of two contemporary Halaf sites in different environments, this paper offers a first attempt to examine how peoples of the 5th millennium B.C., linked by their material culture, differed in their adaptation to local environments.
