Editorial reflects on challenges faced due to COVID-19 and other crises impacting academia.
Let me begin my first editorial as the Editor-in-Chief by thanking my predecessor, Emma Waterton. She took the role in January 2019 with many plans, but we all know how turbulent these years have been and how different from everything we had planned before. Despite all this, the journal is still flourishing. Thank you, Emma! This introduction brings me to the topic of crises. In March 2020, I was supposed to give guest lectures in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine. I arrived there, but before I could get from the airport to the University, news broke that due to COVID the university was closing and there would be no lectures. I managed to change the tickets and get home with the flight that turned out to be the last for quite some months. Two years later the university was bombed.
