A model for the study of improvements in production efficiency in interconnected systems that takes into account the random outages of machines, transmission loadings, and wheeling penalties is presented. The model simulates up to five interconnected systems in any manner. The simulation procedure uses a Monte Carlo technique to model machine outages. Input data matrices account for the topology of interconnections, transmission capacities, loop flows, and wheeling penalties. Economic benefits of using the model are discussed, and some results obtained with it are presented.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
