Few schools of social work give explicit curricular attention to the spiritual aspects of practice with clients in a way that would be helpful to students in dealing with this aspect of life. This paper places values and faith in their historical context within the profession of social work. Developmental stages of faith are presented that are similar to psycho-social stages. The authors then provide some practical ways that students and practitioners can think about the spiritual dimensions of professional practice and make appropriate interventions.
