The calculation of the optical absorption spectra, due to cation colloidal particles in CaF2 and SrF2, using mie's theory requires the knowledge of the dielectric constants of the metallic particles. To find the values of these dielectric constants, knowing those of the bulk metal, it is necessary to apply two main corrections. One is due to the small size of the metallic colloids which introduces a limitation in the mean free path of conduction electrons. The other one is due to the change in the plasma frequency of the metal produced by the pressure exerted by the matrix on the colloid. After taking these corrections into account a good agreement is found between theoretical and experimental results.
