Designing any vehicle requires tedious calculations in order to estimate various parameters such as fuel economy, vehicle dynamics, transmission design, motor sizing with its control strategy, motor mapping, battery sizing and finally determining the optimal values for the most efficient vehicle performance. Calculating all these values on hand can result in errors, assumptions and approximation of substantial factors. Hence, it is necessary to have a Model-Based Design that provides precise insight into these parameters. The dynamics of the model can be included in order to understand how the vehicle reacts to a dynamic environment. Longitudinal simulation offers information about battery and motor sizing for a given drive cycle. This project aims to develop such a system and test it with 3 standard drive cycles to establish the appropriate motor specifications and battery configuration for the drive cycle to be met for fuel-efficient and high-caliber performance.
