The analysis explores the nature of stereotypes, in general, and of stereotypes of Hispanic characters in film, in particular. Psychological and psychoanalytic analyses of such stereotypes show that they reinforce mainstream beliefs about Spanish‐speaking persons. Feminists and ideological/hegemonic critiques lead to similar conclusions.
