The objective of the study was to establish which factors determined an individual's choice of course in higher education and to ascertain whether or not students studying the same course did so for similar reasons. Additionally, it was sought to define the degree to which course group members exhibited decision criteria characteristics similar to other individuals in the same group, but dissimilar to those of other course groups. Once this information was known, it was then expected that a measure of prediction would be possible, based upon certain data input. The objectives were to be achieved by conducting a survey of students, in a higher educational establishment, the results of which would be subject to multivariate statistical analysis.
