In this paper focused on the identification of Flood risk areas for essential developing flood preventive techniques. Hence, we have been finding the vulnerable sites and developing effective flood management strategies are important task. In this study, we have selected the Panchganga River, flowing in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, which are facing flood problems hence we have examined and flood risk mapping by using remote sensing and GIS database. In this study, flood risk zone is delineated by combined the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) and Geographic Information System (GIS) methods. This adopted methodology was implemented to effectively integrate different spatial thematic layers for a complete assessment of flood risk mapping in the study area. In this study, included various thematic maps such as slope, stream density, elevation, land use and land cover (LULC), Topographic ruggedness index (TRI), Topographic position index (TPI), rainfall, curvature, lineament density (LD), geology, geomorphology and drainage density (DD), were computed based on the satellite datasets and GIS environment. These layers provide a complete representation of the terrain and hydrological features that influence flood susceptibility. The AHP method has been demonstrated to be very effective for assigning weightages to every layer as per to their relative significance in input given to the flood risk map. The flood map results identified high-risk zones, categorised into five levels: very high, high, medium, low, and very low. The maximum study area encompasses a medium to high-risk zone for flooding. Hence, final results of flood risk have been validated by using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves in training and testing periods. The results of ROC were calculated into two periods such as training and testing accuracy are 0.903 and 0.85, respectively. There are many variables which are responsible for a flood risk. The outcomes of results could be beneficial to urban planners, farmers, policymakers, climate change experts, government, and non-governmental departments, and support the Sustainable Development Goals.
