Abstract

Neural responses in Onchidium were observed when the temperature of the bathing solution was lowered by 2 - 3 ℃ from room temperature. The identified neuron Ip-1/2 depolarized in parallel with temperature changes and fired when it reached threshold, whereas repetitive spikes ceased in response to the same degree and time course of the cold stimulus in the autoactive neuron neighboring Ip-1/2. These findings will be crucial for advancing understanding of temperature homeostasis at the cellular level in intact cells.
