Introductory article explores knowledge translation for Indigenous communities, emphasizing epistemic defiance and cosmovision.
This article introduces understandings of knowledge translation, cosmovision, and epistemic defiance as heuristic tools to comprehend, explain, and engage with translating knowledge in, by, and for Indigenous communities. In this introductory article, we problematize the concept of “Indigeneity” before discussing various shapes that relations between indigenous knowledge and translation can take. We end with a short presentation of the articles published in this special issue. By introducing the concept of “cosmovision factor,” we present a heuristic that aims to grasp the territorial, epistemic, and praxeological dimensions of knowledge and knowledge transformation taking place through translation processes.
