Demonstrates effective synthesis of chalcone derivatives in drug development, suggesting new lead structures.
A new series of chalcone derivatives derived from quinoline, (E)-1-(2-methyl-4-phenylquinolin-3-yl)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-one analogues, was prepared using microwave-assisted Claisen–Schmidt condensation in thepresence of Tulsion-8052 MP an anionic resin as a catalyst. The reaction of 1-(2-methyl-4-phenylquinolin-3-yl)ethanone with various benzaldehyde derivatives was carried out under microwave irradiation, providing aneffective and rapid method for the synthesis of the targeted chalcones. The results revealed that the procedureproduced (E)-chalcones in yields ranging from satisfactory to outstanding, with shorter reaction times thantraditional synthetic approaches. The chemical structures of the obtained compounds were elucidated by FT-IR, 1HNMR, and mass spectrometry, confirming the successful synthesis of the unsaturated carbonyl system. The use ofmicrowave energy showed some benefits, such as accelerated reaction kinetics, higher yield, and cleaner reactionprofile, following the concept of green chemistry. Due to the presence of both quinoline and chalcone structuralmotifs in one molecule, these compounds can be used as lead structures for drug development in the future.
