This randomized trial demonstrates remote monitoring and torque measurement in brushed DC motors, highlighting cost reduction and convenience.
A vast number of laboratory scale DC motor experimental setup particularly, at various research and academic institutions are found to operate under nonlinear friction regime instead of pure viscus friction. Each of these setup employs conventional measuring instruments such as voltmeter, ammeter, tachometer, and torque meter. Experimentation by a single operator is hardly accomplished when instruments are distantly installed specially when handheld contact type tachometer is used. Moreover, the cost of entire setup is raised when digital tachometers and torque meters are used. In this paper, a model-based sensorless torque and speed metering circuit has been developed by using the coulomb friction dominated brushed DC motor parameters. The parameters are determined form statistically treated experimental data. Furthermore, the IoT based remote monitoring of the measured data enables reading from off location in convenient way.
