This article analyzes trans speculative fiction addressing trans rage and love in a nuanced way, indicating its implications for feminism.
This article considers Gretchen Felker-Martin's 2022 horror novel Manhunt as an example of trans speculative fiction that engages themes of trans rage and t4t love praxis. In the first section, the author argues that, through the imaginative space created by trans rage, the novel offers critiques of trans-exclusionary feminism, biological essentialism, and horizontal hostility. The novel's trans rage is directed at both inter- and intragroup conflicts that work to uphold the systemic structures that replicate the marginalization and exploitation they claim to work against. The second section examines how Felker-Martin's trans rage is motivated and shaped through an investment in t4t love praxis. What emerges from the novel is a relentless affective atmosphere of discomfort that offers care work and interdependency as the only source of relief.
