Cobalt Complexes with As 4 Ligands The reaction of [Cp * Co(μ‐CO)] 2 (Co = Co) ( 1 ) with As 4 in boiling toluene gives the cobalt complexes [Cp * Co(CO)(η 1:1 ‐As 4 )] ( 2 ), [{Cp * Co(CO)} 2 (μ‐η 1:1:1:1 ‐As 4 )] ( 3 ), exo,endo ‐[Cp * Co(μ‐η 4:1:1 ‐As 4 )Co(CO)Cp * ] ( 4a, b ), and [Cp * Co(μ‐η 2:2 ‐As 2 )] 2 ( 5 ), Cp * = C 5 Me 5 . 2,3 , and 4b have been characterized by X‐ray structure analyses. With respect to the mechanism of this reaction the successive cleavage of two, three, and four As–As bonds of yellow arsenic, As 4 , has been proved.
