This study analyses quantitatively the effect of circulating current's amplitude and phase on the input line current of 12‐pulse rectifier with active inter‐phase reactor. The input line current and its total harmonic distortion (THD) are calculated under different amplitudes and phases of circulating current, and according to the calculation results, the effect of circulating current is analysed. Different from the previous results, it is obtained that the system has better performance when the amplitude of circulating current is slightly less than, but not equal to the half of load current. Both phase lagging and leading increase the THD of input line current. Some simulation and experiment are carried out to validate the theoretical analysis.
