A multi-theory model is used to develop an explanation for juvenile delinquency. Five popular theories (anomie, social control, differential association, labeling and self-esteem) are integrated into a causal model to measure the amount of variance explained. An R2 of .29 was obtained. The integrated model was tested on 532 residents of a county juvenile detention center in a southwest city. The theories of differential association and anomie contributed the most to the model, while social control and self-esteem theories contributed the least. The moderate success of the integrated model of delinquent involvement suggests that more comprehensive delinquent measuring models should be tested by social scientists.
