Two concomitant reaction-dependent supramolecular isomers of cadmium (II) coordination polymer by using Cd (NO 3) 2. 4H 2 O and 1, 4-bis (3-pyridyl) -2, 3-diaza-1, 3-butadiene (L), which differ in degree of interpenetration, were isolated. The structural features of these coordination polymers, CdL 1. 5 (NO 3) 2 (L 0. 5) n (1) and CdL 1. 5 (NO 3) 2 n (2), were elucidated through single-crystal X-ray diffraction and further confirmed by infrared spectra (FT-IR) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). X-ray structural analysis shows that compounds 1 and 2 can be simplified as a honeycomb (6, 3) net. The study reveals that compound 1 forms a 2-fold interpenetrated 2D + 2D → 3D inclined polycatenated structure, in contrast to compound 2, which crystallizes as a non-interpenetrated (interdigitated) 2D motif. Two concomitant reaction-dependent catenane supramolecular isomers of cadmium (II) coordination polymer namely, CdL 1. 5 (NO 3) 2 (L 0. 5) n (1) and CdL 1. 5 (NO 3) 2 n (2) were iolated. X-ray analysis shows that 2-fold interpenetrated 2D + 2D → 3D inclined polycatenated structure and non-interpenetrated (interdigitated) 2D structural motifs formed for compound 1 and 2, respectively. • The influence of the reaction condition observed in cadmium coordination polymers. • Reaction-dependent catenane supramolecular isomerism observed in coordination polymers. • 2-fold 2D + 2D → 3D polycatenated and interdigitated structural motifs obtained. • Our results provide interesting insights into the control of supramolecular isomerism in coordination polymers.
