SUMMARY Work is discussed in which the service returns of automobile components, together with life mileage information are used to formulate relationships for forecasting future service requirements. Previous production levels of the components concerned are used, and regression analysis is applied to take into account the fact that any given manufacturer has only a proportion of the spares market. Comparisons with other forecasting techniques are given.
