CAN is a communication protocol used in the automotive industry because of its reliability. Over the years, the lack of implemented security mechanisms led to various solutions for the protection of the CAN bus. In this paper, the symmetric encryption of CAN communication based on DES and AES is analyzed. The cryptographic algorithms are implemented in the C programming language and evaluated on an embedded platform based on the STM32F407 microcontroller. The evaluation of the proposed solution was carried out in terms of the execution time of the encryption and decryption process.
