The presentation aims to explore regional place-based approaches to climate change in cross-border regions (CBR)s. The climate change (CC) is a paramount threat to humanity, and notably CBRs face unique challenges as well as opportunities, to develop innovative approaches and more resilient responses to the threats that CC poses. The study hinges on a comparative analysis through a case study approach to generate knowledge about the cross-border policy directionality in responses to CC. The research is focused on Polish CBRs and its EU neighbouring CBRs in Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, and Lithuania. Notably, the study bears a regional policy standpoint to highlight the place-specific conditions that need to be considered in the policy design process. Findings show the space-sensitivity in approaches to CC across CBRs in terms of thematic objectives, intervention fields and activities highlighting place-specific needs, and interests. Furthermore, cross-border cooperation at the policy level is found to be critical for managing CC-led threats including floods and forest fires. Those are recognized unanimously across cross-border and the regional programs’ objectives although the remediation measures vary.
