Second harmonic generation measurement has been performed to see whether or not K 2 SeO 4 crystal is centrosymmetric in its hexagonal phase. All examined SHG signals were weaker than the detectable limit of our experimental setup, implying that SHG coefficient d 33 of K 2 SeO 4 is estimated to be smaller than 5.3×10 -3 · d 11 of quartz. The present experiment indicates that the space group of the hexagonal phase of K 2 SeO 4 is nonpolar D 4 6h -P6 3 /mmc rather than polar C 4 6v -P6 3 mc.
