Editorial highlights interdisciplinary studies addressing challenges in healthcare, education, manufacturing, and sustainability.
Greetings to the readers of Jurnal Teknosains! We are delighted to present the June 2026 edition of Jurnal Teknosains, which brings together a collection of studies from various fields of science and technology. The articles featured in this issue demonstrate how interdisciplinary approaches continue to play an important role in addressing current challenges in healthcare, education, manufacturing, and environmental sustainability. Beyond their scientific contributions, these studies also reflect the growing effort to develop practical and applicable solutions for society. The first article in this edition discusses the comparison of several resampling techniques, namely ROS, SMOTE, and SMOTE-ENN, combined with Gaussian Naïve Bayes and AdaBoost classifiers for cervical cancer datasets with imbalanced classes. The study emphasizes that evaluating machine learning models in the medical field should not rely solely on accuracy, but also consider recall and sensitivity, especially for detecting positive cases more effectively. The findings highlight the importance of appropriate preprocessing techniques in improving the reliability of healthcare prediction systems. Our second paper explores the antidiabetic potential of ethanol extract from red lotus (Nymphaea rubra) stems. Using experimental mice induced with alloxan, the study found that the extract was able to reduce blood glucose levels after treatment. The research provides an intriguing perspective on the use of natural ingredients as alternative therapies that may offer lower risks of side effects compared to conventional medication. The third article presents differences in tooth maturation between stunted and normal children aged 6–9 years in Toroh District, Central Java. By applying the Demirjian method through panoramic radiographs, the authors found that stunted children experienced delayed dental maturation compared to children with normal growth status. This study further strengthens the understanding that nutritional problems in childhood may affect broader aspects of physical development. The fourth article focuses on additive manufacturing techniques for denture base fabrication. The study evaluates the influence of different printing layer thicknesses on surface roughness and topography. Thinner layer thicknesses produced smoother surfaces and fewer surface defects compared to thicker layers. These results support the ongoing development of digital dentistry technology and provide useful considerations for improving the quality of denture fabrication. The fifth paper presents innovation in educational simulation through the development of an intraoral abscess incision model made from recycled glove waste. The model was designed as a preclinical learning aid for dentistry students and was evaluated based on user perception and functionality. The results suggest that the model can effectively improve practical understanding and procedural skills while simultaneously promoting environmentally friendly learning practices through the reuse of medical waste materials
