Reconstructs village territory data in Japan using spatial merging to create clan boundaries, indicating historical agrarian organization.
In this study, we reconstruct Early Modern Village Territory Data using Kyūdaka-Kyūryō- Torishirabechō and agricultural village boundary data. First, the village locations of Kyūdaka-Kyūryō- Torishirabechō were estimated and matched to the agricultural village boundaries by spatial merging. Second, this method was applied to the Japanese whole country under the ritsuryo system, and the clan territory, which has been difficult to be captured in detail before, was created as a unit of the agricultural village boundary.
