Analyzes governance challenges and innovative regulatory measures in India's startup and fintech sectors, highlighting the balance needed for sustainable growth.
Rapid growth in startup culture and fintech industry in India underscores the increasing conflict between innovation and governance in India. As digital financial products, artificial intelligence services, and platforms scale up, issues related to entrepreneurial management, poor board oversight, fragmented regulation, and data privacy concerns have gained importance. Regulatory measures taken recently by RBI and SEBI like increased regulations on digital lending and fintech companies reveal a trend towards greater oversight. At the same time, innovative efforts like self-regulatory organization (SRO) and Regtech measures indicate attempts at achieving a fine balance between flexibility and compliance. This paper analyzes these changing trends in corporate governance and contends that sustainable growth depends on the integration of elements of transparency, ethical leadership, and adaptable regulation into India’s innovation-focused economy.
