This article presents a personal perspective of AHCT’s historical and chronological trajectory from its inception in 1984 through its growth and development during my twenty years as founder and president. The article also relates how and why two phone calls, two letters, and a meal conversation altered my professional career and opened new channels of teaching and research for other colleagues, theater practitioners, and aficionados of Hispanic classical drama. The article recognizes and pays tribute to the many colleagues, acquaintances, friends, and family members who played a major role in assisting in fulfilling AHCT’s goal to promote and support the Spanish classical theater.
