A version of the Kolmogorov-Chentsov-argument is given which is formulated for random fields indexed by a class of metric spaces satisfying certain separability conditions. The resulting criteria for the existence of modifications which are sample (Hlder) continuous are worked out for random fields defined on open subsets of the -dimensional euclidean space.
