Aim: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, awareness, and practices related to diabetic retinopathy (DR) among patients at a tertiary eye care center in Chennai. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted from March to July 2023 with 350 participants. Data were collected to evaluate the relationship between the participants’ education levels and their attitudes, practices, and knowledge concerning DR. Results: The study found that higher education levels were strongly associated with better attitudes and practices regarding DR. However, knowledge about DR did not always correlate with these positive behaviors. Conclusion: The findings underscore the need for culturally appropriate, targeted educational interventions aimed at both diabetic and at-risk populations to bridge the knowledge gap, improve early detection, and reduce the burden of vision-threatening DR.
