The combined effects of race and social factors on fear of crime were investigated. The sample consisted of 1,835 black and white residents of Mississippi, 15 years old or older. The results indicated that (a) for the pooled sample, race, age, and marital status had significant effects on fear of crime, and (b) with the exception of age, the variables had significantly different effects on fear of crime among black and white respondents.
