The paper presents a high-frequency multiphase synchronous buck converter design for next generation microprocessors. Only ceramic capacitors are used in the output stage to reduce space and improve reliability. A simplified analysis of the multiphase converter with adaptive voltage positioning is given and used in the voltage loop compensation. Fast transient response is achieved, and the analysis and design are confirmed by test results and simulation.
