This article presents a study of the concept of employee engagement in management theory. The main focus of the article is to introduce scale development as a means to measure engagement as a unidimensional state. Two phases of research are conducted and presented, one consisting of the scale development, and a second phase consisting of a pilot-test of the newly developed scale, with data collection and analysis from a replication sample. The author concludes that the newly developed scale supports the notion that engagement is a situation-specific motivation relating with outcomes both attitudinal and behavioral.
