A socio-economic diffusion model for new consumer durables, defined as product classes, is presented in this paper. Social structure, interpersonal communication, word-of-mouth generation, prices and incomes are explicitly taken into account by the diffusion mechanism. The model can be used to forecast the ownership of new consumer durables.
