A non-contact electrochemical imaging method based on hydrodynamic resistance is developed to image the apparent Young's modulus of living cells. This strategy realizes nanometer cell deformation and high-resolution 3D modulus mapping with minimal disturbance to living cells and further reveals the cytoskeleton-associated modulus distribution in migrating cells.
