The light dependence of assimilatory nitrate reductase in marine phytoplankton was shown to follow a rectangular hyperbola. Analysis by the Michaelis‐Menten equation yielded values of K L,t ranging from 0.002 to 0.037 langleys min −1 indicating that the light requirements of phytoplankton are satisfied at low light intensities.
