PURPOSE Cross-validate George, Stone and Burkett (1997) non-exercise (N-EX) regression equations for prediction of VO2max. METHODS Sixty-six participants (28 F: age=23.2±2.8 yr, height=1.66±0.1 cm, weight=64.4±10.9 kg; 38 M: age=24.1±2.8 yr, height=1.77±0.1 cm, weight=84.0±11.2 kg) completed a graded exercise test to maximum (George protocol) to determine measured VO2max (MVO2max), questionnaires for demographic information, exercise familiarity, perceived functional ability (PFA) and physical activity rating (PA-R). Predicted VO2max (PVO2max) was determined from PFA, PA-R, sex and either self-reported (S-R) or researcher measured (R-M) body mass index (BMI). Data were analyzed for total group and a subgroup (n=41, similar characteristics) identified for exercise familiarity. RESULTS Results of the statistical analyses are presented below.Table 1: No Caption AvailableCONCLUSIONS Results from the subgroup indicated improvement in validity statistics in both F and M using either S-R or R-M BMI leading to a recommendation to explore use of an exercise familiarity questionnaire with the N-EX prediction model. However, the N-EX questionnaire was not cross-validated based on these results.
