What does this research mean for the field?

High-altitude rearing of Snowy White chickens significantly alters their reproductive performance, organ development, and body conformation, resulting in delayed sexual maturity, lower laying rates, and an increased heart index compared to low-altitude rearing. Novelty: ClaimNovelty.INCREMENTAL. Consensus alignment: ConsensusAlignment.NEUTRAL.

What question did this study set out to answer?

Comparative analysis reveals the impact of altitude on reproductive performance in Snowy White chickens, indicating important management considerations.

Key Points

This research aims to evaluate how altitude affects physiological traits and reproductive performance in Snowy White chickens.
Chickens assessed at high altitude (3650 m) in Lhasa and low altitude (600 m) in Ya’an.
Evaluated phenotypic traits, laying rates, and organ indices.
Applied multivariate analyses to identify major contributors to differences between groups.
Chickens at high altitude had delayed sexual maturity and lower laying rates (p < 0.05).
High-altitude chickens showed higher egg weight at first laying (p < 0.05).
Organ index analysis revealed higher heart index but lower liver, stomach, and spleen indices in high-altitude chickens (p < 0.05).
