This article examines civic weights, exploring their types and origins in Ionia, suggesting insights into historical trade practices.
This article examines 90 balance weights in the İzak Eskinazi Collection. Almost all of them were incorporated into the collection through purchase in İzmir; therefore, their provenance may be said to be the region of Ionia or nearby areas. The weights are dis-cussed under two groups. Group I comprises weights bearing a denomination mark (but without an ethnic and/or parasemon), whereas Group II consists of weights from the Roman Imperial period (some of which may belong to the Late Hellenistic period). A number of the Group II weights bear the names of magistrates.
