China has emerged as the fastest-growing economy in the world. In this context, I discuss the antecedents, characteristics, and consequence of China’s rise in the world economy with reference to the “four W” framework (What, When, Where, and Why). Comparative analysis with other emerging countries, such as India, is provided. In addition, directions for future research are outlined.
