Mössbauer spectra are measured on a series of new compounds RFe2O4 (R = Y, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb) both at 295 and at 77 K. At 295 K the spectra consist of two doublets corresponding to Fe2+ and Fe2+ charge states for all the compounds. The Fe3+ isomer shift increases with increase of atomic number of the rare-earth ion but the Fe3+ is omershift is independent of the rare-earth ion. At 77 K th spectra are Zeeman split but a paramagnetic doublet still coexists. The Mössbauer spectrum of YbFe2O4 is fitted with two sextets and a doublet. The Fe2+ hyperfine magnetic field is found to be small due to dipolar and orbital contributions.
