Laparoscopy Assisted Abdominal Colpopexy: (Proposed) Gokhale Technique Novel and Simple Technique for Prevention and Treatment of Vault Prolapse

Background and aim:The gold standard technique for treatment of vault prolapse is a laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy, which requires advanced surgical skill in endoscopy.We present a new surgical technique for treatment of vault prolapse namely "laparoscopic assisted abdominal colpopexy" provided by the author.Technique: This technique involves skills of a vaginal surgery and basic skill of laparoscopy to give an option for treatment of vault prolapse at lesser equipped centers.Technique involves suspension of vaginal vault by fixing mersilene tape vaginally and guiding it under laparoscopic vision extraperitonealy to anchor it to the rectus sheath and threading the merselene tape through the rectus sheath for better anchoring.Conclusion: Laparoscopy assisted colpopexy with mersilene tape is a safe and effective treatment of the post hysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse combining the advantages of both abdominal and vaginal approaches.Clinical significance: This technique has the potential to achieve the desired outcome even with basic laparoscopy skills.Further studies are required to assess its long-term benefits.
