Interim report confirms minimal archaeological remains in overburden during construction activities.
The aim of the archaeological monitoring was to confirm the presence/absence and extent of any surviving archaeology remains within the stripped overburden of Site. The archaeological monitoring from December 2019 through to January 2020 was conducted for the construction of a compound, haulage road and pylon bases. The stripping of the topsoil only exposed the upper surface or interface with the subsoil in places and no archaeological features were noted cutting through the topsoil or subsoil where it was exposed. The finds recovered within the topsoil were dated similarly to other finds recovered from the evaluation and mitigation of North Portal and are not significant.
